Only the silver dollar, center, and the ten dollar gold piece, upper right are dated "1804." Each of the other coins are dated "1834," the date of authorization of this diplomatic gift set of U.S. coins. The coin collecting public first learned of the existence of this set in 1962, at the American Numismatic Association convention.
